The year was 1982...and I was with a few friends over a DJ's house when he was previewing new music. He pulled out the Debarge record, "I Like It" and we were all in El's trance. We wondered like everyone else...is that Switch? Nope...after looking on the back-cover of the album. It was Bobby and Tommy DeBarge's younger siblings. We listened over and over again until we all knew the words and could sing along. Not noticing the time...it was two hours later and past my curfew. Needless to say, the week on punishment was well worth it. I sang, "I Like It," ...
Feel Good: Are You a Bionic Woman?
Remember the 70's TV show The Bionic Woman? I use to love that show. Watching a smart, savvy and strong woman take on the bad guys and win was awesome. I had all the toys; the doll, her blow up house (that took all Christmas Morning to inflate), her bionic station, the outfits....EVERYTHING. I wanted to be the bionic woman. Yet, I was only a little girl that hadn't experienced tough life occurrences. I only saw the end product. The bionic woman kicking butt and taking names. But who was Jamie Summers before her bionic prowess? How did she get ...

We bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan. Never would we imagine that being a mom is worth is over 138,000 a year.
According to Salary.com a stay at home mom is worth 138,o95.00 annuallly. And a working mom, her professonal and personal multi-tasking would earn an additional 85, 939 year. Deep down, women in the motherhood, we knew our hard work being a mom, wife, cook, maid, assistant, taxi driver, doctor, psychiatrist, nurturer, etc…etc… was TOP dollar all along.
Now Working Divas, we may never see over 200-thousand dollars in our bank account for doing what we do…but the job of a mom…has no price tag in my book. I would do it for free.
No matter if you are a size 2 or 32 or somewhere above, beneath or in between, I’m calling on your inner queen. Last night I sat for the first time in my life and enjoyed the blessing of the condo I rent. I drew a nice warm bath & lit my few remaining candles and enjoyed the blessing of bathing and soaking in a bathroom inside my bedroom in the quiet of the night. I thought about the fact that some woman, somewhere in the world does not have this opportunity right now, for that I said thank you Lord for this opportunity.
I then slipped into a nice clean Asian inspired robe that was a gift bought for me and sat on a couch my landlord allowed me to keep, while listening to love songs playing from an old desktop my former employer gave to me. I said to myself everything may not be how I want it to be, but thank you God for choosing me.
Shortly after I walked to the kitchen and poured wine that was a b-day gift into a glass that was a moving away gift to me. I sat down at my 2 seat pub table that was also a housewarming gift to me with $.49 wood place mats that my dear friend thought would be nice for me. I sipped the wine & sat on the stool and admired the small cozy place and said thank you God for people who care about me. Read the rest of this entry »

We all know the recession is hitting us pretty hard and that does not exclude us ladies who are used to hitting up the salon to get our relaxers and touch ups every 4 to 6 weeks. Nowadays, those trips to get our “hair did” can add up so if have been considering going the DIY route, here are some tips to get you through!
Before I get into the tips, let me just give a little hair info about myself. I have been relaxing my own hair at home for about 3 to 4 years now. I had a bad experience at a salon and just decided that if I wanted it done right, I would at least try to do myself!
So, without further a-due, here we go!
Read! – please, please, please, read all the instructions that come with the relaxer kit you purchased.
Get Greased Up! – make sure that scalp is protected by greasing it first ( I like Bergamont or Blue Magic). This will help protect it through the harsh relaxing process. It will also give you practice parting your hair and finding your scalp even when you can’t see it.

If you could have a conversation with your younger self…what would you say? I would tell my younger Working Diva; don’t overwhelm yourself working three jobs while being a full time student. Enjoy life and college, there is plenty of time to work. Balance your lifestyle. Just slow down and take in the richness life has to offer. Patrica Volonakis Davis collected her inner thoughts and now shares them with young women…and now you. Pass this along to other women and young women you may know.
1. You are at least ten times prettier than you think you are. That holds true no matter how pretty you already think you are! Don’t believe me? Ask your mother/auntie/grannie if she thought she was pretty when she was twenty. She’ll say no. Then find a photo of her at that age. See what I mean?
2. The only thing you should be faking is confidence.
If you don’t have it yet, pretend you do. In every new situation, pretend you’re not nervous, pretend you’re not afraid. After a few times doing this, the pretend part disappears.
Did you hear about the Arizona man who tweeted about being on vacation — then came home to find his house had been robbed? Well, I did, and it started me thinking about how publicly we live our lives, and questioning whether or not it’s a dangerous lifestyle. So I did some investigating. I pulled up Twitter’s search engine and typed “vacation.” Simple enough. I quickly learned that on the day of my search, six people were either traveling to or traveling back from vacation. I then Googled a few of them and actually found two home addresses linked to the users on vacation. Could it be that easy? Yep!
Now for those of you who are concerned that I am giving the thieves ideas, it’s too late. These thieves are not even cloaked in black ski masks hiding in the dark shadows. They are just hanging out online in places where people are talking about their “status.”
