Remember the 70's TV show The Bionic Woman? I use to love that show. Watching a smart, savvy and strong woman take on the bad guys and win was awesome. I had all the toys; the doll, her blow up house (that took all Christmas Morning to inflate), her bionic station, the outfits....EVERYTHING. I wanted to be the bionic woman. Yet, I was only a little girl that hadn't experienced tough life occurrences. I only saw the end product. The bionic woman kicking butt and taking names. But who was Jamie Summers before her bionic prowess? How did she get ...
Karen’s New Radio Job
Happy New Year! I have some exciting news to tell you. I am moving to Cleveland for a new radio job in February. Thank you to everyone in South Florida for supporting my radio career in Miami, my wonderful listeners in Charleston, SC and Florence, SC., and of course everyone on the Working Divas Network. I have been absent for a minute trying to get my professional and personal life in order for this cross country move. Once I am settled, (sometime in February) I will be more active on the blog and network. I can't wait to reconnect with ...

It is Friday night and what am I doing…typing away on my laptop while my husband puts the little one to sleep. Tonight, it’s his turn for story time. Rewind six years….we would have been getting ready for a night on the town beach with good friends and good music. We are the poster children for a much needed date night!
Priorities shift when you become a parent…family first, right? We are learning, the hard way, that time together as a couple is just as important. Not so long ago, we tried date night. We had two rules, NO talk about work or the little one. We were out five minutes before I brought up work and my husband brought up the toddler. Ok, so that time we were a bust. In talking to friends, we aren’t the only couple seeking a few hours without a stroller.
As we observe our First Couple devote time to date night, how can we say we are too busy or too tired? How do they do it…better yet…how do we do it? As I sit here typing away and enjoying a glass of delicious wine by myself, I have stumbled upon an article by relationship expert Michelle Golland. After reading it I called the babysitter, put on a cutie dress and told my husband…you have 15 minutes…we are going out. Hey, a Working Divas has to put her foot down. It’s now or never! Want some inspiration? Read what Michelle has to say about how your relationship needs Date Night.
As a relationship expert, I hear many couples who sit across from me say, “I just don’t know him anymore” or “All she cares about is the kids and keeping the order of the house.” My first question is, “How often do you go out alone as a couple?” The most in-distress couples are the ones that can barely remember the last time they actually went on a date. This is a serious problem in a marriage. I also don’t accept the issue of not having money for a babysitter or someone they can trust. We should all have a few people we will leave our children with and who would be willing to swap kids for a night so each couple could get a date night out. Read the rest of this entry »
The new school year starts Monday morning. Over the next few days we will head out to complete our children’s back to school list…supplies (check), backpack (check), school fashions (check), open house (check); however the most important thing is to keep our children engaged in their studies throughout the school year. Once the family returns to its school year drill, how can parents keep kids excited about school like it’s the first day of school…be involved! Working Divas, let’s help our children and their teachers in making them Grade A students and future leaders. Review the tips below and enjoy the school year!
It doesn’t matter if your child is entering first grade or his or her first year of high school, your child should know that you are going to be involved. Parental involvement is a great way to help your child stay motivated about school because it communicates that you are concerned about your child’s education. Make an effort to meet your child’s teacher(s) at the beginning of the year. Attend school events such as Parent/Teacher Conferences and PTA/PTO meetings and check in periodically to see how your child is doing both academically and socially. Also, consider volunteering for a few class or school functions. Read the rest of this entry »

We all know the male mind is mysterious. But turns out we women have a whole lot of “he just won’t understand” secrets ourselves. What do you think? Any of these sound familiar?
1. Everything we buy for ourselves — shoes, a skirt, even just stuff from the drugstore — really costs 20 percent more than we say. Just because it’s a classic sitcom plot doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
2. We actually think about sex — with you! — a lot. Sometimes we think about it all day long. It’s just that by the end of the day we’re too damn tired to do anything about it.
3. We’re just as nervous about commitment as you are.True, many girls grow up dreaming of Prince Charming, the white wedding, and happily ever after. But we’re human, just like you, and when it comes down to the reality of tying our life to another person’s, we get scared, too.
4. We may be modern and independent, but we still want you to be “the man.” We do want you to be sensitive, caring 21st-century males, but even the most ass-kicking, take-no-prisoners woman still wants to feel taken care of by her man somehow.
5. Our ex-boyfriends were not completely terrible in bed.You know how we’re always telling you things like, “Oh, yeah, you’re definitely the biggest I’ve ever had,” or “No one does it like you do”? Um, yeah. Well, we may have been stretching the truth just a teensy bit.
Any others to add to the list or should we keep them on the hush hush tip?
Tyler Perry is mad as hell and he isn’t going to take it anymore. Apparently someone is trying to cash in on the Tyler Perry brand. He posted this open letter on his website Monday. He needs to have Madea put some hot grits on the stove.
I’m back from Vegas and had a great time at the Hoodies, but I gotta give a quick WARNING to all my Facebookers, Twitters and Tyler Perry board members: I’m so pissed right now!
I’m sitting in my den writing, minding my own business, when I get an email from my staff saying that someone put an ad up on Craigslist saying that I was casting a movie in L.A., and in order to be considered for this (FAKE) Tyler Perry movie, you have to join their club for $29.95. THAT IS A LIE, don’t fall for it. These folks are trying to rip you off. I hate for people to prey on people’s dreams and hopes. Why don’t people get a job and stop trying to steal folks’ hard-earned money….Ugh, that makes me mad; let me breathe.
Okay listen my dear folks, if anyone asks you to pay in order to do an audition or pay a fee to join a club to put you in a movie, please don’t fall for it. That’s not how it works in this business. It’s free to audition for any film. I’m calling my lawyers about these THIEVES! You’re my best help here, so please do me a favor and send this out to all your followers and friends.

There are many principles–”secrets”–about money and success that will serve you well if you want to increase your wealth. Above all, however, is to first make it a priority. Make your want of manifesting financial wealth a clear intention. So many people feel guilty about earning, spending and investing more money. Or they think wealth just happens without any intention or effort. Moreover, recent economic events have made many people believe that there is a finite amount of money in the world. That is not true. More wealth is being created every day. The supply of money is truly infinite once you apply certain principles that have made millionaires and billionaires over and over again. There are people out in the world that are making hundreds of millions of dollars a year! Read the rest of this entry »
Many women like myself live with Fibroids. For some they don’t become a major issues, but for a few of use…they wreck havoc on our bodies. I am grateful my story has a happy ending. Unfortunately I had to go through two miscarriages, one stillborn, and two surgeries due to fibroids before I finally had my son. At one time I was doing so much research my husband banned me from the computer. I tell my husband now….all that research paid off! The most important thing I have learned is balance. We must begin to live a health, happy, stress less lifestyle to truly live in harmony and balance. Living good has to become a lifestyle. Therefore, you have to eat right, rid your self of toxic relationships, and find peace. Read the rest of this entry »
