Ovarian Cancer – Genetic Screening and Surgical Prevention
Women who have a family history of ovarian cancer or a BRCA 1 or 2 gene mutation are candidates for prophylactic removal of the ovaries and Fallopian tubes.
This removal does prevent ovarian cancer, but, there is the small risk of developing primary peritoneal cancer which acts like an ovarian cancer and is similarly treated.
