The year was 1982...and I was with a few friends over a DJ's house when he was previewing new music. He pulled out the Debarge record, "I Like It" and we were all in El's trance. We wondered like everyone else...is that Switch? Nope...after looking on the back-cover of the album. It was Bobby and Tommy DeBarge's younger siblings. We listened over and over again until we all knew the words and could sing along. Not noticing the time...it was two hours later and past my curfew. Needless to say, the week on punishment was well worth it. I sang, "I Like It," ...
Feel Good: Are You a Bionic Woman?
Remember the 70's TV show The Bionic Woman? I use to love that show. Watching a smart, savvy and strong woman take on the bad guys and win was awesome. I had all the toys; the doll, her blow up house (that took all Christmas Morning to inflate), her bionic station, the outfits....EVERYTHING. I wanted to be the bionic woman. Yet, I was only a little girl that hadn't experienced tough life occurrences. I only saw the end product. The bionic woman kicking butt and taking names. But who was Jamie Summers before her bionic prowess? How did she get ...

Thanksgiving for many families is all about the fest. From the turkey to all the sides and desserts, food is plentiful around this time of year. This year, my family and I are downsizing our meal and going back to basics. A great meal doesn’t mean you have to have six sides. We are still having a wonderful meal with eco-influences while keeping it simple.
Janet Jackson wows the audience at the American Music Awards. Her medley of hits took me back to when my friends and I use to record her videos on the VHS and memorizing all her dance moves after school. Love her new song, Make Me, it’s one for the dance floor. As she wrapped up her performance with, Together Again, it only reminded all of us how much she misses her brother Michael Jackson. Loved her tribute….no dancers, no choreographed dance moves, just a fun loving performance. The words spoke for themselves. Janet is resilient.
A look back at Janet Jackson performing, Control, during her first solo American Music Award appearance in 1986.
Planing your holiday gathering? You can’t forget the cocktails. With these green beverages, your soiree will be the talk of the town through New Years. Cheers!
Responsible red The Cooper Mountain Vineyard composts grape skins and stems to nourish the soil naturally. Its Pinot Noir ($25; CooperMountainWine.com) benefits your body, too: Organic reds have more antioxidants than conventional ones do. Post-party, send stoppers to TerraCycle to turn them into corkboards.
A better brew Fight global warming with a cold one! The Sierra Nevada Pale Ale ($8 for six) brewery converts oil from its on-site restaurant into biodiesel for its trucks. Stash beer in a cooler to keep the fridge from losing its chill every time you open it.
Earthwise white Wind and solar energy power the Parducci Wine Cellars. Please your palate with its Sustainable White ($11; Parducci.com) in enviro-chic cups, such as stemless glasses made from recycled car windows ($22 for two; UncommonGoods.com).
Green spirits The maker of TRU Straight Vodka ($35; TRUVodka.com) plants a tree for every bottle sold. Mix with juice from fresh, in-season grapefruit and garnish with a swirl of honey.

Waiting until tomorrow to do something you could do today can make a big difference. This applies to making sure you have clean underwear, but more importantly, it pertains to personal finance. Staying on top of your money habits is imperative to having an accurate picture of your overall financial health.
This is a time of change. For the last few weeks I’ve been downsizing my home. I started with my closet. My first rule…if it doesn’t fit it doesn’t stay. (check) Second rule…if I haven’t worn it in a year…gone (check) By the time I was finished I found a few pieces I had forgotten about and my closets contents were half the size. Yeah…progress. Now it’s on to the kitchen! Yet, we are also thinking about moving. For us, it’s about living comfortably and being able to provide for our most necessary needs effectively.
