The year was 1982...and I was with a few friends over a DJ's house when he was previewing new music. He pulled out the Debarge record, "I Like It" and we were all in El's trance. We wondered like everyone else...is that Switch? Nope...after looking on the back-cover of the album. It was Bobby and Tommy DeBarge's younger siblings. We listened over and over again until we all knew the words and could sing along. Not noticing the time...it was two hours later and past my curfew. Needless to say, the week on punishment was well worth it. I sang, "I Like It," ...
Feel Good: Are You a Bionic Woman?
Remember the 70's TV show The Bionic Woman? I use to love that show. Watching a smart, savvy and strong woman take on the bad guys and win was awesome. I had all the toys; the doll, her blow up house (that took all Christmas Morning to inflate), her bionic station, the outfits....EVERYTHING. I wanted to be the bionic woman. Yet, I was only a little girl that hadn't experienced tough life occurrences. I only saw the end product. The bionic woman kicking butt and taking names. But who was Jamie Summers before her bionic prowess? How did she get ...

As I read the title of this post I think of “Be Happy” by Mary J. Blige. Unfortunately Mary didn’t have this list or she would have sung, “Just Fine” a long time ago. Creating a wonderful atmosphere for yourself can be as easy as reading the following 9 tips from Gretchen Rubin at realsimple.com. The goal is to boost your mood by doing as many of these items listed in the next 30 minutes. Start now and you’ll been singing a happy tune within the hour.
I made it through my first week. Yeah! At first I thought I was crazy for starting a workout plan/lifestyle change during my family’s transition. From my everyday routine with work and maintaining two households… I’ve learned that you can make time for what is important. If you can sit in the salon all day you can make time to workout, if you wait in line at the club to get in, you can take the time to make yourself a healthy dinner.
You are a wonderful woman that can make it happen, that can make a away out of no way…for everyone else. Now, its time to celebration YOU! As a strong HEALTHY woman!
Day 8
Cardio Day
Try to run 1.5- 2miles. Even if you need to walk part of the way! To get ready…I love checking out some of my favorite dance videos. They get me pumped up! This one is for you Fred!!!!
Cooking with your kids can be frustrating. They spill; they splatter; they smear. Plus, there are knives and hot pans and things that they need to learn not to touch and to stay away from. It can definitely be more stressful than it is fun.
However, I believe that allowing your children into the kitchen area is important. I’ve already shared several reasons why I think getting them involved is important, but now let me tell you *how* to get them involved so you aren’t losing your sanity in the process.
Does your get up and go…get up and leave during the day? Always have a few snacks on hand during the day for times when you need a quick pick me up. By planning ahead you will keep your body and mind happy and alert.
If you’re going to work…bring vegetables and fruits It’s easier to resist the morning-meeting muffin basket or the afternoon trip to the vending machine if you come to the office prepared. Fruits and veggies make for healthy, low-calorie snacks that are perfect between meals. If you’re craving crunch, reach for carrot sticks or sliced cucumber. Satisfy a sweet tooth with your favorite in-season fruit. If you need an extra afternoon pick-me-up, dip your veggies in hummus or spread peanut butter on an apple or banana. We are going to try something a bit different. Breaking up our workout into two segments. Try one in the morning and the other during the evening.
My day has been crazy to say the least. Trying to organize my workouts, working from home, searching for a home for my family. So today I’m giving myself a permission slip to do what I can without losing it! (Thank you Sherri Shepherd!) I’ve come up with a plan. I will take my little one to Karate. After his class I will put him in the stroller with an interactive educational toy while I power walk. Then once my husband comes home and I put dinner in the oven, its time to hit the gym for my LEG segment of today’s workout. Plan you work and work your plan. I have work to do!
Day 7 First half of the day: Cardio 30-45minutes of Cardio (keep it at a steady pace)
Second half of the day: It’s Leg Day! Leg Press 3×10 Leg Extension 3×10 Stiff-legged deadlift 3×10 Lying Leg curl 3×10
This time I’m going by the plan. I’m taking a rest! I’ve worked out every day and given my all. Today I’m taking in some me time. I feel so good doing this work. This has become more than a physical transformation to me. I’m working out, reorganizing my home and creating a more structured personal and professional life. It must be all this extra energy I have now. If you have been reading my 90-Workout blogs debating if you should start the program, there is no better time than now. You may have a lot on your schedule but with a few adjustments you can make exercise a part of your lifestyle. Get yourself an awesome gift. The gift of health. If you need encouragement, we have a team of women doing the program that will keep you motivated. Not to mention the creator of the 90-Day Workout, Tomeka Flowers. We are all on Facebook moving each other forward one day at a time. So Getting up and get started with day one now.
