The year was 1982...and I was with a few friends over a DJ's house when he was previewing new music. He pulled out the Debarge record, "I Like It" and we were all in El's trance. We wondered like everyone else...is that Switch? Nope...after looking on the back-cover of the album. It was Bobby and Tommy DeBarge's younger siblings. We listened over and over again until we all knew the words and could sing along. Not noticing the time...it was two hours later and past my curfew. Needless to say, the week on punishment was well worth it. I sang, "I Like It," ...
Feel Good: Are You a Bionic Woman?
Remember the 70's TV show The Bionic Woman? I use to love that show. Watching a smart, savvy and strong woman take on the bad guys and win was awesome. I had all the toys; the doll, her blow up house (that took all Christmas Morning to inflate), her bionic station, the outfits....EVERYTHING. I wanted to be the bionic woman. Yet, I was only a little girl that hadn't experienced tough life occurrences. I only saw the end product. The bionic woman kicking butt and taking names. But who was Jamie Summers before her bionic prowess? How did she get ...

2. Bright Colored Swimsuit- dress all your children in the same color bright color. Always remember the color of the swim suit to alert authorities in case they become lost, plus they will be easy to spot while you are watching them.
3. Life Jackets a Must for little ones especially while on a boat. Express this to your children so they will know the importance of wearing a life jacket. To send a strong message put one on yourself to reinforce the family rule.
4. Look for the GREEN flag at the beach. It is usually located by the lifeguard deck. The green flag let’s you know it is safe to swim.
5. Observe if there is a lifeguard on duty. Search locations that have one or more lifeguards. In case of an emergency, you have a trained professional on hand and necessary backup to easy your situation.
5. Always use a sun block on children. Protect and prevent sunburned skin. And don’t forget to reapply sunblock between water breaks.
6. Keep water on hand. Store bottles of water in a cooler to keep cold for your family to remain hydrated. The sun can be draining when directly exposed for a period of time.
7. Every 30 minutes or so, call everyone out the pool for a break. At this time you can access your child as to whether or not they have had too much sun and are lethargic, need a snack or something to drink, taken in too much water, or just need to relax.
Today is a rest day but I’m going to keep moving. I am feeling energetic and motivated! It’s 80 degrees and sunny in South Florida…it doesn’t make any sense not to get out side and enjoy the beautiful day. I’m going to head over to one of the parks in my neighborhood and do a 30 minute power walk. If you happen to live in a colder region and you still want to workout, don’t let the weather stop you. Layer up and get moving! You can do it! If its extremely cold, try a workout on one of the cable channels, on-demand or log-on to you tube and take in a FREE workout. Keep on movin’ ladies!

Needless to say, the week on punishment was well worth it. I sang, “I Like It,” and “All This Love” all week long. From that point DeBarge has been one of my favorite groups. Yes, I have all the CD’s and even El’s solo projects. I’m so ready for El to hit the stage again!!!!
After years of battling drug abuse and a prison stint, El DeBarge has surely returned to make all of us swoon to the sound of his soulful voice and music. His dynamic performances during the BET Awards proves El…is ready! Check out this heartfelt video! Good luck, El! I’m rooting for you!
My legs are finally hurting from yesterday. Hey, “No pain, No gain,” as Auntie Betty Wright would say. Today I have a date with stairs. I haven’t ran up and down stairs since high school. This is going to be a real test of discipline. I wish I had a portable mp3 player. I need some Mary J. in my ear pushing me through! Are you rolling with me….let’s Work That! Day 3
Today is all about Cardio!!!
Running Stairs
This can be done on any stairs ( a school stadium, hotel, or even at home). No Excuses!
Do at least 20 – 30 minutes.
Try doing them in sets of 5. Up and down equals 1 set. After you have done 5 sets, take a 2 min break, then start the next set until you have gone at least 20 – 30 mins.
If you are at a school, then up is 1, down is 2, continue until you hit 5. Take a 2 min break, and repeat until you have done your 20 – 30 mins of cardio.
Update: I rode around and couldn’t find a school with stairs tall enough for my workout. (*sigh*) So the next best thing was this hill/mini mountain at a local park. The incline was perfect enough for me to simulate stairs by lifting my legs a bit higher. My legs are throbbing but in a good way. I’ve noticed I have so much energy after I work out. Are you up for the challenge?
Before hand be sure to have something to eat because working out your legs can take a lot out of you. For motivation think Tina Turner her legs at 70 are like a women in her 20’s!
Day 2 Leg Day! Warm up for 10 minutes
( Do 3 sets of all exercises) Squats (12 reps)
Leg extensions (12 reps)
Leg Lunges (12 reps)
Leg Curls (12 reps)
Standing Calf Raises (15 reps)
And now for Abs: Incline situps (15 reps)
Incline knee raises (12 reps)
